In February, The Textile Company collaborated with three distinguished New Zealand furniture companies for an inspiring morning of industry learning in Auckland. This unique masterclass brought together David Shaw, Kovacs, Montreux Furniture and The Textile Company at 159 Design Centre, celebrating the artistry of New Zealand’s family-led legacy businesses and their shared commitment to exceptional craftsmanship.
The event showcased The Textile Company’s stunning Private Label collection – a carefully curated range of fabrics developed with European mills specifically for the New Zealand aesthetic. This collaboration between four industry leaders offered designers and specifiers an invaluable opportunity to explore the intersection of furniture design and textile selection.
The morning began with guided tours through all four showrooms, allowing attendees to experience each company’s unique approach to design and craftsmanship. The educational component focused on practical skills designers need to deliver exceptional results: selecting the perfect fabric for specific furniture pieces, understanding critical client questions for fit-for-purpose outcomes, and embracing sustainable design practices.
Jessica Fitzgibbon, The Textile Company’s Brand & Creative Director, led discussions on how customisation can elevate projects, sharing compelling case studies with local designers that demonstrated real-world applications. The session concluded with a light lunch and exclusive textile trend insights from Paris Déco Off, connecting global directions with local application for 2026 projects. This collaborative format strengthened connections within New Zealand’s design community while providing access to four teams of industry experts for ongoing project support.
