RYDGES, MELBOURNE
by Luchetti Krelle
A completely overhauled look steered by the renowned Luchetti Krelle for the Rydges, Melbourne, features soothing interiors of natural stone and pale timber complemented by loads of natural light. Located in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, the hotel features suites that are complemented by an abundance of natural light, while earthen tones including eucalypt greens and rusty ochres refresh the senses.
Mutually designed to enliven interactions and support a sense of calm, a mood-enhancing palette inspired by an Australian lifestyle vernacular featuring expressive stone and timber adds tranquil layers of luxury within the hotel’s fully revamped suites and public spaces.
Phillip Jeffries Vinyl Silk and Abaca is featured in the executive suites, translating the elegance of grasscloths into luxurious performance vinyl. This sophisticated wallcovering has a handcrafted look that provides a rich, textured surface that’s both opulent and capable of withstanding the demands of high-traffic areas.
The Rydges lobby area features Phillip Jeffries Abaca Harvest, offering a rich tapestry of saturated hues in a matte, textured grasscloth wallcovering. This wallcovering is ideal for adding depth and character to interiors, being a testament to the beauty of artisanal authenticity in modern design.

ELIO'S PLACE
by Studio Co & Co
“This project involved reimagining an old sushi train restaurant in the heart of Melbourne into a layered European-style bistro. The goal was to create a space that feels like it has evolved over time, moving from early continental influences through to a modern sensibility.
Housed within a complex, multi-level heritage building, one of the key challenges was accessibility. The design needed to deliver a seamless experience across varying floor heights while defining distinct zones that could shift effortlessly from day to night.
The solution embraces the building’s quirks, using them as cues for a richer spatial narrative. Zoning is achieved through subtle changes in colour, seating style, and multi-purpose joinery. The result is a balance of intimate nooks and open, energetic areas.
Custom-designed screens connect the split levels and feature a mix of open voids, clear and textured glazing, and solid timber. These offer transparency and enclosure in equal measure. Horizontal banding creates a visual datum that ties the spaces together and guides the eye through the venue. Guests can feel part of the atmosphere while still enjoying a sense of privacy.
At the front, the bar features high seating, perfect for a quick espresso, a pre-dinner aperitivo or a late-night glass of wine. The dining room invites guests to linger, with plush banquettes, acoustic treatments that support conversation, and low lighting to soften the evening. At the rear, a chef’s table offers an intimate setting for private dinners, still connected to the energy of the space.”

HUKA LODGE
by Virginia Fisher Design
Huka Lodge has always carried a quiet kind of magic. Set within 17 acres of lush, riverfront gardens, it’s a place where the landscape does most of the talking—and as a designer, that’s endlessly inspiring.
From its beginnings as a simple riverside fishing camp more than a century ago, the lodge has evolved into one of New Zealand’s most iconic luxury retreats. For its centenary redesign in 2024, our goal was to honour that heritage while gently refreshing the spaces for today’s traveller.
Reopened in March 2025, the lodge feels renewed yet true to its roots. We introduced The Textile Company’s Boutique Outdoor Salerno fabric for the outdoor cushions—a subtle addition that brings durability, texture and a refined ease to the alfresco spaces, perfectly in tune with the spirit of Huka Lodge.
