OXFORDSHIRE ESTATE
by Samantha Todhunter Design
“Built in 1707, The Old Vicarage is a handsome Grade II* listed Oxfordshire house that Samantha Todhunter and her family gently revived with colour, character and an instinctive sense of modern English glamour. Rather than radically reworking the architecture, Samantha chose to preserve the house’s beautiful proportions and traditional bones, subtly layering them with vibrant grasscloth walls, collected portraits, richly patterned textiles and striking furniture.
In the drawing room, a vivid red Phillip Jeffries grasscloth sets a wonderfully theatrical tone, offsetting her husband’s collection of portraits and reflecting Sam’s enduring love of colour and bold decoration. Striped Nicky Haslam fabrics were chosen for the sitting room curtains, bringing a playful sense of rhythm and a touch of stage-like grandeur, while in the principal bathroom, the prettiest floral blind fabric softly draws the surrounding countryside indoors. The result is a deeply personal home that balances heritage with wit and warmth, and perfectly reflects Samantha’s signature approach: classic decoration with a confident, contemporary twist.”
