TEXTILE TALKS WELLINGTON: A MASTERCLASS IN FURNITURE & FABRICS
April 28, 2026 | By The Textile Company | News
On Wednesday 22 April, The Textile Company reunited with its New Zealand furniture partners for another Textile Talks masterclass – this time at the beautiful Wellington Design Library. Even as heavy rain placed the city in a state of emergency, the Wellington design community showed up in force, making the morning all the more special. The event brought together four New Zealand-owned, family-led legacy businesses – David Shaw, Kovacs, Montreux Furniture and The Textile Company – united by a shared commitment to craft, quality and exceptional design.
Attendees were guided through tours of all four spaces within the Wellington Design Library, experiencing each company’s distinct approach to furniture and material excellence. The educational component focused on the practical skills designers need most: selecting the right fabric for a specific furniture piece, asking the right questions of clients for fit-for-purpose outcomes, embracing sustainable design practices and understanding how customisation can truly elevate a project.
Jessica Fitzgibbon, The Textile Company’s Brand & Creative Director, led an engaging discussion on textile trends – drawing on fresh insights from Paris Déco Off to connect global directions with local application for 2026 projects. The session concluded with a light lunch, giving attendees the chance to connect with the four teams of industry experts and continue conversations about their upcoming projects.
Thank you to everyone who braved the weather to join us, and to the Wellington Design Library for providing such a wonderful space for the day. For those who missed out – Design Day is just around the corner, and we look forward to seeing you there.
