STROHEIM: COLOUR VOL. IV

STROHEIM: COLOUR VOL. IV

April 10, 2026 | By The Textile Company | Stroheim

THE STROHEIM STORY

Stroheim is one of the oldest active textile companies in the United States. Founded by Julius Stroheim during the Lincoln administration, the brand built its reputation supplying decorative fabrics during an era when opulence was everything — think elaborate drapery, richly covered furniture, and the philosophy that too much is not enough.

Today, under the Fabricut Inc umbrella, Stroheim has evolved into something fresher — a younger take on traditional design, with a strong focus on decorative sheers, wallpaper, and their signature Colour Book series.

“It’s a younger version of traditional — great colours, beautiful textures and fantastic solid programs.”
– Emily Wynn (Stroheim Design Director)

WHAT MAKES COLOUR IV DIFFERENT?

While previous Colour Series collections featured white grounds with brighter colours, Colour IV takes an earthier turn — organic grounds paired with more muted, warm tones. The inspiration? A home Emily Wynn, Stroheim’s Design Director, spotted in a magazine: traditional yet ethnic, with a colour palette that stopped her in her tracks.

From there, Emily pulled colour references from Fabricut’s solid books and Pantone, designed patterns drawn from Stroheim’s archives, and worked with mills across the world, including Turkey, England, India, Belgium and Germany to bring them to life.

The collection is designed for layering — pattern on pattern, large and small scale, wallpaper paired with fabric. Trims like the Corby scallop work on just about everything.

FABRICS

The fabric collection features 34 patterns across 150 SKUs. Standouts include Somerset – a block print with Indian-inspired motifs, and Delavol with its vintage medallion design. Archive-inspired patterns are offered in three colourways: Pecan/Flannel, Antique Rose/Biscuit and Azure/Sage.

TRIMMINGS

Designed for layering, the collection features versatile pieces like Corby scallop trim. Created with specialised Indian mills, these coordinating trims range from subtle accents to statement pieces, enabling rich, cohesive looks.

WALLCOVERINGS

Drawing on Stroheim’s expertise since 1865, Colour IV wallpapers mirror fabric designs in wall-scaled patterns. They harmonise seamlessly with fabrics, enabling the pattern-on-pattern mixing that defines the collection’s sophisticated aesthetic.

Q&A WITH DAVID KLARISTENFELD

How did Fabricut begin?
Founders Joe Finer and Harry Guterman met at the end of World War II — Joe as a US officer, Harry as a concentration camp survivor. Years later, Harry looked Joe up in the States, and a lifelong working partnership was born. On a road trip from New York to California, they stopped in Tulsa, Oklahoma — and never left. The company is now run by the next generation, with David Finer and Michael Guterman at the helm, and the third generation Jodi Finer and AJ Finer heavily involved.

What are Stroheim Design Director Emily Wynn’s favourite designs from Colour IV?
Somerset — like a block print with an Indian, traditional-meets-ethnic feel that works across so many different aesthetics. And Delavol — a vintage medallion that’s beautifully scaled and incredibly easy to use.

Who’s using Stroheim today?
Everyone from Kelly Wearstler and Ken Fulk to Kit Kemp, who has used Stroheim extensively across her hotel projects. In Australia, some great clients include Cameron Kimber, Handelsmann & Khaw and Justin Bishop.
