LANAI HOUSE
by Wild Orchid Spaces
“The client envisioned the property as a distinctive holiday retreat capable of comfortably accommodating both weekend escapes and larger family groups, requiring a design that balanced flexibility and functionality with a strong sense of personality. Inspired by the discovery of the home’s original tiki bar and backyard pool, the design direction embraced a glamorous, Slim Aarons-inspired aesthetic that celebrated leisure, escapism and effortless sophistication through bold colour, materiality and curated indoor and outdoor living spaces.
The Orsay fabric by Camengo in colour Terre Battue was used to reupholster a pair of circa 1980s vintage Italian armchairs. These chairs were placed in the Lanai’s sitting room, flanked by tropical palm trees, a nostalgic art print and a custom marble topped coffee table. A cohesive colour palette was established for this project, drawing inspiration from the sunset hues of Palm Springs and the rich tones synonymous with 1970s revival modernism. Warm terracottas, sun-washed peaches, caramel tones and earthy neutrals were carefully layered throughout the home, creating a visual thread that connects each space through a cohesive design language.
The selection of Orsay fabric successfully balanced the practical demands of a high-traffic holiday home with the project’s aesthetic ambitions, breathing new life into the vintage armchairs. The reupholstered pieces retain their original character while feeling refreshed and relevant, becoming distinctive focal points that contribute to Lanai’s layered sense of history, personality and effortless glamour.”
