“Situated on the peaceful outskirts of Warrnambool, Tullynagee is a beautifully restored early-1900s residence where heritage character meets contemporary country living. The sunroom was conceived as a light-filled gathering space, a room that would feel equally suited to quiet mornings, long lunches and lively family celebrations. At Kimpton Interiors, we were involved in every aspect of its creation, from the architectural design and spatial planning through to the selection of fixtures, finishes and furnishings, ensuring every element worked together as a cohesive whole. While the sunroom has its own distinct personality, it forms part of a larger design narrative, with colour, texture and materiality carefully woven throughout the home to create a sense of continuity from one room to the next.

Drawing inspiration from the confident palettes of English country manors, we layered deep greens, chartreuse and magenta throughout the room, balancing timeless references with contemporary fabrics, artwork and natural textures. While the architecture and interior finishes establish the framework of the space, it is the soft furnishings that bring warmth, personality and soul.

Full-height curtains in Soane’s Pineapple Lace in Moss Ivory Linen create an elegant backdrop, enveloping the room in warmth and softness. Yet it is the addition of S. Harris’s Cecilia Natural trim that truly completes the story. In fact, this was a trim I had admired for some time, patiently waiting for the right project to present itself.

Applied to the leading edge of the drapery, the Cecilia Natural trim introduces a beautiful raffia-like texture that brings an organic presence to the room, creating a subtle connection to the surrounding landscape. Working harmoniously with the grounding sisal rug and other natural materials layered throughout the scheme, it reinforces the dialogue between indoors and out while adding depth, craftsmanship and a sense of relaxed luxury.

The trim’s contribution should not be underestimated. Without it, the room would simply be beautiful; with it, the curtains become an integral part of the design narrative. It is often these finishing touches that bring a scheme together, those carefully considered layers that add richness, authenticity and character. The result is a sunroom that feels inviting, timeless and deeply connected to its rural setting, where every detail plays its part in telling the story.”
