50 YEARS OF PHILLIP JEFFRIES: WALLCOVERING MASTERCLASSES ACROSS AUSTRALIA

Over the past couple of months, The Textile Company had the privilege of hosting a series of Wallcovering Installation Masterclasses across our Perth, Sydney, and Melbourne showrooms. These hands-on sessions celebrated Phillip Jeffries 50th birthday, bringing together designers, specifiers, and industry professionals for an in-depth look at the tips and tricks of specifying and installing natural, textured, and speciality wallcoverings.
Having supplied Australia and New Zealand’s leading designers with Phillip Jeffries wallcoverings since 2012, across both residential and commercial projects, the masterclass series was a chance to share some of the knowledge we’ve gathered over the past 15 years working closely with designers and installers on thousands of projects. Each event paired an expert wallcovering installer with a live install demonstration, alongside project case studies, guidance on specifying grasscloth, silk, murals and other speciality items, and a look at the questions designers should be asking their installer before placing an order. Our Brand & Creative Director Jessica Fitzgibbon also joined each session to share a brief history of the Phillip Jeffries brand and what continues to set it apart as the industry leader in wallcovering.
PERTH
The tour opened at our Claremont showroom, where expert installer Matthew Williams led a morning session on specifying speciality wallcoverings and applying them to surfaces including joinery and ceilings. Matthew paired a live install demonstration with real project case studies, giving Perth’s design community practical insight into the common mistakes installers can help designers avoid, and the right questions to ask before placing an order.
SYDNEY
Next stop was our Alexandria showroom, where installer Caleb Willis hosted an afternoon masterclass for Sydney’s design community. Caleb extended the conversation beyond joinery and ceilings to include powder rooms, walking guests through a live install demonstration and sharing lessons learned across his career specifying and installing natural and speciality wallcoverings.
MELBOURNE
The series closed at our Prahran showroom with an early-evening session led by Sheena Singh of Wallpaper Creations. Sheena brought her own perspective on speciality wallcovering installation, running through project case studies and a hands-on demonstration that gave Melbourne’s design community a close-up look at the craft behind a stunning install.
From Perth to Sydney to Melbourne, the masterclass series gave Australia’s design community a genuine behind-the-scenes look at the craft of wallcovering installation, and a fitting way to mark 50 years of Phillip Jeffries. A huge thank you to Matthew, Caleb and Sheena for sharing their expertise, and to everyone who joined us across the three showrooms. “We sourced the Fabricut Bazaar fabric in blue for use as a custom made ottoman in our family friendly living room at our East Toowoomba 2 project. We find patterns in family zones are very forgiving for clients with little ones and all of the associated wear and tear! This room needed a vibrant fabric that was going to anchor the other patterned fabrics utilised in this layered room instead of competing with them… The paisley did just that! The trim was a fun addition that gave the ottoman some formality and structure and kept the multicoloured space looking refined.”
