Fifteen years ago, Kaari Meng began French General in an old barn along the Hudson River in upstate New York. Traveling to France every summer with her family, she explored the rural French countryside and collected inspirational elements found in old homes and filled the barn with antique floral textiles, striped ticking fabrics and traditional linen and hemp sheets. Little by little, French General evolved into a lifestyle brand of rural French sensibility.
Expanding on her brand known in the quilting and crafting circles, Kaari and Fabricut teamed up to develop a collection of authentic French home furnishing fabrics and trimmings. Prints, stripes, embroideries, wovens and trimmings in genuine French palettes of Rouge, Bleu and Bisque reflect a lived-in simplistic lifestyle surrounded by beautiful, natural textiles that seem to have gently faded over time.
“After living many summers in France and enjoying many old homes, I have come to understand the simple beauty of a well-edited combination of colours that flow easily from room to room,” Kaari said. “Our collection with Fabricut was created and developed to have that same feeling – a simple, vintage colour palette of three main colours: rouge, bleu and bisque. Each colour collection can stand on its own; combined together, the prints, stripes embroideries, wovens and trimmings come alive.”
Focusing on different weights of linen and cotton fibres, the French General for Fabricut collection conveys a luxurious and authentic appeal; many of the beautiful, natural textiles are gently prewashed and faded to blend in with the unique light of the French countryside, capturing a lived-in look that’s soft, worn and comfortable.
With French General, you can experience new ideas in decorating based on 300 years of rural French interiors.
